Orthodontics
This specialty is concerned with the prevention,interception and correction of
dentofacial deformities. Dentofacial deformities include protrusion of
teeth, irregularities of teeth, abnormal dental and jaw relationships,
abnormalities of the size and shape, of jawbones and congenital
deformities like clefts of lip and palate dental and jaw relationships are
essential for normal oral functions like chewing, swallowing, and
speech. Dentofacial deformities can also produce far reaching
psychosocial problems.
Essentially three modalities of treatment are undertaken in orthodontics to correct dentofacial deformities. They are orthodontic treatment, growth
modification treatment and surgical orthodontic treatment. The department
is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment
and instrumentation. Strict aseptic precautions are followed to ensure
prevention of crossinfection.
No stone is left unturned in their endeavour to impart quality training to
the students. The training offered includes theory, practical and clinical
classes to ensure that the student will have accomplished proficiency
in diagnosing orthodontic problems and undertaking preventive,
interceptive and limited corrective orthodontic procedures, on
successful completion of the training. Students are encouraged to
communicate freely with the teachers for guidance in any matter pertaining
to their studies.
